Crop Walk
Sunday, November 4 the Churches of HH sponsored a CROP WALK to eradicate hunger and
homelessness. Walk began & ended at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church (Burton &
Hamilton). Walkers assemble at 1 p.m. and started at 1:30 p.m. The 2.4 mile

HHFD moves to Teterboro?
October 23, 2001 -- Boro officials have selected a Honeywell parking lot on Green
Street in Teterboro for the new temporary location for the fire department 1.5
miles from Hamilton Avenue. [Details]
Municipal Complex Ground Breaking Ceremony
was held 2 p.m. Saturday, October 13, 2001
With shovels in hand, the Mayor & Council, Library and Seniors formally broke ground
on the New Municipal Complex. [Photos] |

On Sunday September 23 at 12:45, area fire departments responded to a house fire at
the corner of Oak Grove & Jefferson Avenues. Several minor injuries were
reported. No one was home when the fire occured. The cause was believed to be electrical.

Town Day was held Saturday, September 22, 2001 between 10:00 a.m. to 3 p.m. in
Woodland Park. There was plenty of food, amusements and community displays. This annual

Free Roses -- Bring Food
Good Neighbor Day, September 5, Bill O'Shea Florist gave away 1,000 dozens of
roses. One to keep -- 11 to give away. Also, recipients were requested to make a food
donation to Center
for Food Action.

Search
and Rescue
Upon arriving on the scene they prepared themselves with bulky and heavy life protecting
equipment. Within moments, a team is at the front door poised to enter the
"unknown" of a smoked filled house. Their mission is search and rescue.

ESL Graduates
Free ESL 12 Week Course sponsored by St. John the Divine started on Thursday June 21 from
7 to 9 p.m. and 18 graduated students on July 31, 2001. The coordinator was Barbara
Smith. Teachers included: Edwinna Carroll, Carollyn Claussen, Dr. Burnett Eglow, Janet
Hager, Dorothy Kalnins and Barbara Smith.

Schools chief leaving Hasbrouck Heights
The superintendent of the borough school district is leaving his job to accept a
similar position in an Atlantic County district. Richard Stepura announced his
resignation, effective Aug. 24, at a school board meeting Tuesday night. [Record

Additions & Renovations
-- Progressive construction photos
After a $10.4 million referendum was passed in May
1998 by the community, the Board of Education began work on the new additions to Euclid,
Linclon and the Jr./Sr. High School on July 1999. Work was nearly completed
September 8, 2000, in time for September 11th school opening. Here is a photo essay

Corpus Christi Community Theatre presents another fun-filled show for the entire
family. Show Dates: October 26 & 27 at 8 p.m., Sunday, October 28 at 3 p.m.; November
2 & 3 at 8 p.m. and Sunday November 4 at 8 p.m.. Tickets are $10 adults and $8

Halloween Window Decorating Contest!
During mid-October, the Hasbrouck Heights [Chamber
of Commerce] will sponsor the 8th Annual Halloween Window Painting Contest in
conjunction with the three grammar school PTAs. Approximately 300 third, fourth and
fifth grade students participate.
The children painted a Halloween theme illustration on window spaces that is provided by
most Boulevard businesses. Graphics are judged upon originality and artistic expression,
winners from each grade receive 1st, 2nd and 3rd Place Ribbons. All participants receive
ribbons.
Thousands of area residents enjoy the bright exciting demonstration of creativity that
these youngsters offer.

Light the Night Walk for Leukemia - September 22
"We are forming our"Light the Night" team in honor of our son,
Douglas, who died of Leukemia. Douglas was a student of Corpus Christi and Hasbrouck
Heights High School and died of Leukemia after being diagnosed with the flu. It is
easy for the symptoms to be misunderstood. That is why they call it the "Silent
Disease". Doug's Team in the last two years has raised over $15,000. Will

walk with us on September 22, 7 p.m. at Ramapo College or send a donation to 123 Bell
Ave., Hasbrouck heights. Make checks payable to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

16th Annual Steven Bizik Memorial Golf Tournament -- September 19
Sponsored by HH Men's Association. Apple Mountain Golf Club in Belvidere, NJ.
Golf fee is $100 and includes 18 holes of golf with cart, entry into a prize
drawing, trophies for skill events and attempt at $10,000 prize for hole in one.
Includes buffet breakfast, barbecue lunch, hot & cold hors d'oevres, cocktail hour and

raised go to youth school scholarships.

Enjoyed you're site. Takes me back a little, but not far enough. Does anyone recall
"Phil's Candy Store" on the N/W corner of Division and the Blvd in 1930? I
remember getting "orange ice" at two cents a cup (?) there at that time. I
joined the Navy in May, 1941 at 17 yrs of age, and I was gone. I was born at and lived at
223 Henry.
