Town Day 2004
Town Day was celebrated in Hasbrouck Heights on Saturday, October 9, 2004,
between 10:00 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Woodland Park. There were free hot dogs and soda
(while they lasted), amusements free balloons, and many community organizations provided
table top displays. HH Fire Department gave tours of Engine # Two. The Jr. Women's Club
sponsored the Community Blood Mobile. This year's successful event was sponsored by HH

MDA Telethon Labor Day Weekend @ VFW
The 39th MDA Telethon ran from Sunday, September 5th until Monday September
6th. The regional pledge center located at VFW Post 4591 has served Northern NJ, Manhattan

Hit & Run Kills 4 Year Old
On September 3, 2004 about 11:30 a.m., an adult and a four year old boy, had just
left Dunkin' Donuts and were holding hands and crossing with the light on the Boulevard
heading east when a red Ford Expedition traveling east on Williams, turned left onto the
Boulevard and struck the pedestrians. Witnesses said that the adult was clipped by the
vehicle, but the child was hit by the left bumper before the vehicle sped off. It appeared
that the child traveled about 15 feet. HHFD fire department responded and
transported the child to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. Gloria Amendano, 35,
of Hackensack was stopped shortly thereafter in Little Ferry on Route 46 heading east and
was arrested. The Bergen County Fatal Accident Investigation Unit was reviewing the

Mass Decontamination
The radio crackles: "There has been a contamination of unknown
substance at ...." Office building, factory or stadium -- regional first
responders are trained to handle the decontamination of large numbers of people.
Carlstadt, Hasbrouck Heights, Little Ferry, Moonachie, Wallington and Wood-Ridge Fire
Departments participated in this hands-on mass decontamination exercise. The
training was held on August 22, 2004 at a Route 46 office complex parking lot in
Hasbrouck Heights, NJ. Classroom instruction preceded this drill. This course
is given to every fire department in Northern New Jersey and with this common training --
all departments can mobilize in highly-coordinated, scalable efforts.

Heights and bus-loads from other Bergen County communities visited the Boulevard Farmer's
Market on a bright and sunny August 3, 2004. As part of a Bergen County Division of

taxes until September 1, 2004 and no interest or penalty will be charged up until that
date. Interest will be computed back to the usual August 1 if payments are not made by
