NJ DOT Plans to Upgrade Route 17 Intersections

On July 26, 2006, the Department of Transportation (DOT) held a public forum regarding
Route 17 at the Hasbrouck Heights Municipal Council Chambers. The purpose was to
inform local residents, officials and the business community about the proposed
construction on Route 17 at the following signalized intersections: Williams Avenue,
Franklin/Malcolm, Union Avenue and Highland Cross. DOT has identified these intersections
as problem areas. [Story]
6th Annual Senior Citizens Picnic
was held on July 13 in Woodland Park from noon to 4 p.m.
Plenty of food, entertainment, dancing, games & prizes. Seniors brought the fun.[Photos & story]

Kids Enjoy Camp Rec Trek
The Hasbrouck Heights Recreation Department held its 2006 Summer Playground
Program. This years six week camp was held in Woodland Park June 27 through August

Ribbons Net $2,000
The Center for Food Action (CFA) received a check on February 17, 2006 for $2,000
during a brief ceremony at Bill OSheas Florist , 231 Boulevard, Hasbrouck
Heights. This donation was the result of hundreds of bright red ribbons decorating
the Boulevard in Hasbrouck Heights and Wood-Ridge during this recent holiday season. [Story]

Winter Said Hello
On February 12, 2006 a nor'easter fooled forecasters who predicted 6 to 12 inches
would fall that weekend. Blizzard like conditions saw amounts total from 18 to 26

72 Students Get the Bug
Seventy-two students in Grades 4 and 5 of our local school received the BUG Award
from the Kiwanis Club of Hasbrouck Heights and Teterboro. The Bug Program (Bring
Up Grades) is a program designed to encourage students to bring up one or more grades
one level in English, Reading, Language Arts and Mathematics without going down in any of

HH Fire Department Features
Mass Decontamination
The radio crackles: "There has been a contamination of unknown
substance at ...." Office building, factory or stadium -- regional first
responders are trained to handle the decontamination of large numbers of people.
Carlstadt, Hasbrouck Heights, Little Ferry, Moonachie, Wallington and Wood-Ridge Fire
Departments participated in this hands-on mass decontamination exercise. The
training was held on August 22, 2004 at a Route 46 office complex parking lot in
Hasbrouck Heights, NJ. Classroom instruction preceded this drill. This course
is given to every fire department in Northern New Jersey and with this common training --
all departments can mobilize in highly-coordinated, scalable efforts.

volunteer drivers one day a month to drive short distances to drop-off or pick-up

2006 Free Health
Consultations
The Hasbrouck Heights Health Department advises residents over 18 years old that free
health consultations will be held at the Municipal Building Senior Center from 10:00 a.m.
until 1:00 p.m. Consultations are held on the fourth Thursday of each month. No
appointment is necessary. Next scheduled dates are June 22nd, July 27th, August
24th, September 28th, October 26th and December 28th. (There will be no progrm held in
November due to the holiday.)
Services include: health history evaluation, blood pressure measurements,
height and weight measurements, individualized counseling and education, including
referral and follow-up confidential consultation with a Public Health Nurse. This program
is part of the Borough's health contract with Bergen County Department of Health Services.
These free health consultations have been provided to our residents for over 10 years.
