Heights hold line on municipal taxes
The Borough Council voted
unanimously Tuesday to pass an #11.5 million municipal budget that will increase spending
while maintaining the line on taxes, officials said.
Spending will increase by more than $200,000, but municipal tax rate will drop by a tenth
of a percent to little more than 91 cents per $100. A home assessed at $195,000, the
borough average, will be taxed $1,786.20.
Borough officials increased their budget to include the $10.2 million municipal complex
project, which will include a senior center and public library on The Boulevard and
renovation of the former municipal structure on Hamilton Avenue for the police and
volunteer fire departments.
The project's cost was offset by a $4.5 million insurance settlement from the loss of the
former building in a fire and more than $700,00 in state and federal grants.
