HHFD Conduct Live Fire Exercises
On Sunday morning at 6:00 a.m. on June 1, 2003, the Hasbrouck Heights Fire

Veteran's Memorial
Walkway
Engraved brick pavers with Veteran's
names were placed in a Memorial Walkway in Veterans Park on Terrace Ave & Passaic late
April 2003. About 200 bricks were engraved and integrated into the walkway surrounding the

Open Cockpit Day
Four year old Katelyn was our "Tour Guide" during the Aviation Hall of
Fame's Open Cockpit Day held April 26, 2003 at Teterboro Airport. The Museum opened the
cockpits of selected aircraft for visitors of all ages to sit in and pretend to fly.

Boulevard Shell Demolition
Demo started August 5, 2002 with the tanks being removed. The town bought
the property around February 2003. The HHFD used the building for drill on March 9th. Building demo started April

A Passaic Avenue house fire was reported early evening on April 6, 2003.
No injuries were reported.

mailman John Pearson retired from the Postal Service. Over 200 of those friends held
a surprise retirement dinner at George's (Graycliff/Moonachie) on Thursday, March 6,

Blizzard '03
On the afternoon of Sunday, February 16, Governor McGreevey declared a "State
of Emergency" as a winter storm with wicked-cold temperatures and brutal
blizzard-like wind conditions was expected. The snow began Sunday night and
continued steadily until Monday evening. As the day ended on February 17, 2003, Hasbrouck
Heights received over 20" inches of snow -- making it the deepest snow fall since

50 Years of Service
to the Community and Honor Dr. Burnnet Eglow
The Hasbrouck Heights Kiwanis Club celebrated 50 years of service to our
community on Sunday, February 2, 2003 with a brunch at the Holiday Inn. The club also paid
tribute to Dr. Burnett Eglow, the only active member of Kiwanis who is also a charter
member of the club. Dr. Eglow is one of the original ten men who sat down with
representatives of Kiwanis International to lay down the plans to form the Kiwanis Club of

The Hasbrouck Heights Fire Department held their installation dinner at the
Venetian on February 1, 2003. Honors were presented to the immediate past Chief Artur
Knoblock and incoming Chief Robert Thomasey as well as recognition to other deserving

Girl Scout Gold Award Project: Books for Beginners
Emily Wallace of Senior Girl Scout troop 519 is collecting early reader books for
her Gold Award Project. The books she collects will be given to children of an inner city
school in Paterson. These children have many disadvantages such as lead paint poisoning,
fetal drug addiction, and economic hardships. If you would like to donate any new or
gently used early reader books, there are collection boxes at the library, Corpus Christi
School, and 156 Roosevelt Ave. Any donations are greatly appreciated.

Kiwanis Club supports Autism Awarenss
Kiwanis Club asks everyone to be aware of autisms existence and sensitive
to the severe difficulties it presents to individuals and their families. In order
to make the community more aware of Autism, the HH Kiwanis Club is working with the
Hasbrouck Heights Public Library to have available flyers, brochures, and a brief guide to
books on Autism. [Story]
Concert
The Contemporary Club of Hasbrouck Heights, proudly presents, "An Afternoon
of Music", featuring David Maiullo and Company, Sunday, April 27th at 2 p.m. at the
Keifer Auditorium in the Hasbrouck Heights Jr./Sr. High School. Proceeds will benefit the

April 12 with a registration beginning at 8 a.m. Designed to collect money for
scholarships, The Rau-Fitzgerald Memorial Run ($16 entry fee) will take place at 9:30 a.m.
on the Boulevard, followed by the 10:30 a.m. Terlemezian mile walk ($10 entry fee).
The Rau-Fitzgerald Memorial Run (5 km run) and the Cheryl Terlemezian one mile
fun run/walk
