Support Our Troops

On a rainy and raw Saturday afternoon, area residents attended a "Support Our Troops Rally" which was held in the Lodi amphitheater on April 5, 2003 from Noon to 3 p.m.

Several families held photos of their military men and women serving in the Gulf region.   Many veterans were in attendance.

American Flag lapel pins and yellow ribbons were given to everyone attending.

The program began with the Fair Lawn and Lodi Police Departments Honor Guard presentation of The Colors, and was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.  Douglas Duca from Corpus Christi Church, Hasbrouck Heights led the assembly with the Star Spangled Banner.   Monsignor Paul L. Bochicchio, Our Lady of Mount Virgin Church, Garfield led the invocation.

The Bergen County Bag Pipers played several tunes, concluding with an "Amazing Grace" tribute to our fallen heroes.

Welcome remarks were made by Assemblywoman Rose M. Heck and Paul DiGaetano.  Speakers included: Lodi Mayor Gary Paparozzi, American Red Cross Board Chairman John Uzzi, Elmwood Park Mayor Richard Mola, Freeholder Louis A. Tedesco, Jr., Fair Lawn Mayor David Ganz, Garfield Mayor Frank J. Calandriello, Hasbrouck Heights Mayor William J. Torre and Paramus Councilwoman Sandi Gunderson.

The closing benediction was conducted by Father Rodrigo San Pedro, Corpus Christi Church.

The event was sponsored by Assembly Republican Leader Paul DiGaetano and Assemblywoman Rose Marie Heck.
