It wasnt the Senior Prom or a Victory Dance or even the Awards Assembly. It was the Annual Senior Soiree sponsored by the high school Key Club on Saturday, June 11, 2005. The affair, open to all senior citizens of this borough, was attended by more then 100 seniors. This years gala was different than all others; different because it was held in the new gymnasium at the high school. The new location was spacious, comfortable and pleasant. The theme for this years soiree was Mardi Gras. The gym was decorated to emphasize the theme. Paper fans, colorful neck beads, half face masks as well as fake coins were available to all. Six foot long balloons were also given to the seniors. The centerpiece for each table was a vase of fresh rose buds. The disc jockey provided the music that encouraged all to dance - waltzes, polkas, swing, line dancing, cha cha, the twist, the chicken dance and lots more. The best part of the afternoon was the treatment that was extended to the seniors from the members of the Key Club. They made sure that all the needs of the seniors were taken care of. First they distributed cold bottled water, then punch. They were constantly at the tables to help out. The food was nourishing and plentiful - vegetable platters, cold cuts and rolls, wrap sandwiches, and all varieties of chips. Soda, coffee and tea were also available. Finally, they placed trays of cookies on each of the 13 tables that were set up. Key club advisor Leslie Valenti and her group of students made the afternoon a memorable experience for all who attended. It may have been a very hot day outside but the only warmth that the seniors felt, was in their hearts for the Key Club members of Hasbrouck Heights High School.
