Lovey's Pizzeria Fire
[Hasbrouck Heights Fire Department]

On Friday morning on February 27, 2004 at approximately 4:00 a.m. the HHFD responded to a working fire at Lovey's Pizzeria. Residents of the surrounding apartments were quickly evacuated and a second alarm was transmitted. A 3rd alarm was called to standby in the firehouse. Two residents were taken to Hackensack Medical Center for smoke inhalation.

Sources said that HHPD Officers Kevin Cacavella, Corey Lange and Scott Adamo arrived to find the pizzeria filled with smoke -- then rushed into the apartments and helped clear out the remaining tenants.

The fire appeared to have started in the rear of the kitchen and it quickly spread into the walls of the apartments above the restaurant.  Five tenants of the building were temporarily homeless.  Although utilities were lost, other businesses in the building were apparently not affected.   Three thermal imaging units were monitoring the adjoining wall at Heights Flower Shoppe. While no arson was suspected, the cause of the fire is under investigation because it occurred at a business.

About 25 years ago there was a roof HVAC fire at this location.
