Director's Report:
Almost a hundred children and parents participated in our 13th annual Lego My Leggo Family
Night. Architects were Ed Arcari, Anthony Iovino, and Constance Gil. Children's Librarian
Rosalie Nickles did a fantastic job organizing this event. Mrs. Nickles has also completed
work on her section of the State-wide Summer Reading Program. It was an honor to our
library for her to be chosen to participate. She took a great deal of her own personal
time to complete her section.
Assistant Director Mimi Hui has organized seminars in job searching techniques, in
response to patron usage of books on resumes, etc. Interviewing Skills will be offered on
November 14, and starting your own business will be offered in December. Ms. Hui has also
begun a Young Adult book discussion club. Many of the children who attended the Talk It Up
program facilitated by Ms. Mellet wanted to continue meeting. Mimi also attended a
wrap-up party for participants in the Summer Reading Program given by BCCLS at the Rotunda
at Neiman-Marcus. She reported that our children were both well-behaved and gregarious,
mingling with students from other libraries!
Carolyn Lee Kravatsky will begin her Family Leave next week. I have planned for Jaclyn
Ashline to take her place while she is gone, and Dorothy Schlatterer and Janice Napiorski,
assisted by Penney Giammatteo, will pick up the slack.
I attended a meeting at the new offices of Arcari and Iovino to look over shelving
specifications and placement of furniture and shelving in the new library.
The Securities account has been set up in preparation for the fundraising, and also to
pass through the $10,000 donation from Ms. Marjorie Arp. The Children's Room Desk will be
named in her honor. Ms. Arp's gift is even more welcomed as it came from one who truly
appreciated what we do here.
A meeting in the near future will be held with CFO Mike Kronyak regarding budgeting for
the new library.
