Present: The meeting, duly advertised in
compliance with the Sunshine Law, was called to order at 7:40 p.m. by Pres. T. Verrastro.
Per the Disability Act, Trustee Alternate Joanne Serraino attended by telephone. The minutes of the March meeting
were approved as presented. I have met with architect Rebecca Iovino both with the staff and alone and I feel that we are finally making some progress and being included in the decision making process, as well we should. Decisions are still being made for us, as in the case of canopies not being included in the shelf order, as we had planned. The canopies in themselves are unimportant. What is important is that these decisions not be made without our knowledge or approval. The date when we will be able to move into the new library building is now tentatively set for the end of June--the beginning of July. We had to close early due to a snowstorm on April 7, which froze just around rush hour. Jo Zangl is back at her position. Thankfully, her operation was not as extensive as the doctor originally thought. Debra Zeppinick, who was to train for a month with Jim Dressel prior to his retirement, only had the benefit of two weeks with him. Jim had to retire early on doctor's orders. Debra has had to do most of the work on her own, with an assist from Laura French at the borough office. She is doing well. I have given her an extra hour a day to keep up with the work and the learning curve. We are already planning our summer programs. Assistant Director and Young Adult Librarian Mimi Hui is once again going to run the Talk it Up Summer Reading Program. She was asked to be a presenter at a BCCLS program for YA librarians, as an example of how things were done well at Hasbrouck Heights in this program. The statewide program that Rosalie Nickles worked on is coming to fruition; this summer ̉Read and Grow @ Your Library will be the theme in public libraries across the state. We will be beginning the program in this library and finishing at the New Library.
The Mayor has requested that we hold off on putting out the donor list , as he wants the opportunity to talk to the"heavy hitters" first. Tom Meli wants to hold a cocktail party for the businesses in order to solicit donations from them all at once. Other possibilities: Beautithon - supervised students from Parisian;Penny Brigade.
New Business: The next meeting will be held at
7:30 p.m. on May 14, 2003. Donna Mikulka, Secretary
