Hasbrouck
Heights Boro Hall Fire
Photos and story by Karen Fels
Midnight multi-alarm fire with flames soaring over 60 feet collapsed the
roof of the Hasbrouck Heights Municipal Building on Friday, December
10, 1999.
Wicked winds hampered firefighters efforts to save the building. Water to fight the fire
had to be relayed via several pumpers from Route 17 to support the desperate mission.
The fire was fought by the courageous men and women of Hasbrouck Heights, Hackensack,
Wood-Ridge, Moonachie, Lyndhurst, Little Ferry, Rutherford, East Rutherford, Lodi, N.
Arlington, Teaneck, Wallington and Carlstadt Fire Departments until after 4 A.M. while
hundreds of horrified spectators watched.
